Swedish Fire Steel

Swedish Fire SteelHere’s a very practical gift idea. It’s a simple little key chain sized fire starter. When you slide the key looking thing against the little stick, sparks fly out at 3,000°C which is 5432°F. Yeah, that’s pretty hot.

The crazy little thing even works when it’s wet. I’m not sure anything will light when it’s when, but this thing will keep sparking. Get this for your closest friend who wants to go out and be like Bear Grylls!

Come on baby light my fire.

A Slew of Busted T-Shirts

Today The Gift Idea Blog brings you a nice little group of t-shirts from Busted Tees. These are some of my favorites. Now it’s time for blurbs about each of them!

I Heart AccuracyI tend to sometimes be a bit of an annoying nitpicker when it comes to accuracy. I realize, however, that I’m pretty inconsistent myself. Anyway, if you’re like me, you may have wondered why we commonly make that heart shape we’re all so used to when a real heart looks like the leftover chunk of beef that nobody wanted to eat because it’s all full of gristle and nastiness. Problem solved here! This shirt should make a great gift for your friend who always points out your mistakes.

Candy vs. CornThis shirt is just plain old awesome. I love some good Halloween candy corn; who doesn’t? I know dentists are sure glad they exist! But really, look at the faces on the mutant candy corn and the cob man who seems to fear he may be destined to have the same fate. It’s just pure goodness. So you should buy it for somebody right now.
Yummy.
Candy Corn.

BRBGet it? Yeah? See, BRB means “Be Right Back” and it is commonly used in online conversations to indicate one of the parties will be leaving the computer alone for a few moments. Now, that’s a boomerang there, following the proper arm motion, when the boomerang leaves your hand, it will also be away for a few moments, but then return. So, get it now? Oh, you got it at first glance, ok. Yeah, by now, you’ve probably already left the site, so I’m just rambling on. Two left!

RirrutoAlright, here we are with the first of two t-shirts with movie references. This one is probably pretty well known, but I’ll jar the old memory for ya. Remember in Billy Madison when Billy’s cursive writing is tested by Miss Veronica Vaughn? Frank Rizzuto morphs into Frank Rirruto. Classic Adam Sandler goodness.
Quit looking at me swan!
I’m pretty sure I would be rewarded no points for this answer, you are now dumber for reading this.

Urban AchieversAnd finally, a more obscure movie reference. Anybody get it? Here are some clues: Dude, Bowling, Donnie, Rug, Creedence, The Jesus, White Russian, Nihilists, Bunny. Well, if that didn’t do it for ya, you probably noticed the word Lebowski on the shirt. It’s all from the Big one of those, as in The Big Lebowski.

Thanks for reading and such!

Tuttuki Bako Virtual Finger Game

Tuttuki Bako Virtual Finger GameHere’s a weird one for ya! This little box has different digital characters who live inside. You get to stick your gigantic (in proportion to them) finger in a hole on the side of the box and mess with the little creatures! Why not?

Being one of the weirdest things I’ve posted on this blog, I feel it appropriate to include a little video demonstration of said weirdness. Here’s a little clip of this Virtual Finger Game I found on YouTube.

The clip starts out with a tiny stick man being terrorized by the huge finger. Then at the push of a real button on the housing of the box, a menu appears. That menu, apparently, cycles through the characters with the touch of a digital button. The finger goes on to play with a blob and then an adorable panda who is clinging onto a tire swing. Just precious. Bonus: The song is mesmerizing.

Titanium Spork

Titanium SporkI got this (along with a couple other things) for my Father at Christmas. He is quite the spork enthusiast, and really, it doesn’t get any better than a titanium spork. He loved it. I’m not sure if he still uses it, as that was well over a year ago now, but I tell you what, I’m sure it’s still in pristine condition!

Now, why a titanium spork you ask? I say why not! Most sporks are wonderfully convenient, but terribly flimsy. And most often, they still have little plastic seams left on the edges to cut your lip, ouch! This titanium spork is smoothly crafted into a perfectly gentle, but sturdy, large sized spork. Really, the thing is big, see that image there? It’s even bigger in real life! It measures 6 1/4 inches long and 1 1/2 inches wide. Go measure one of your spoons, probably nowhere near that size.

One last thought about a spork, that I took from my Father: Why not call it a foon?

Princess Leia Poster

Princess Leia PosterThe classic Princess Leia poster. For all Star Wars fans, and anybody who appreciates good old beauty…circa 1970′s George Lucas future style…or something.

You really can’t go wrong getting this poster for any guy who is into Star Wars, or movies, or just plain old interested in attractive women! Carrie Fisher was at her best as Princess Leia, and there really isn’t a whole lot more to say about it. If you don’t know who Princess Leia is, I’m sorry, you’ve obviously been in seclusion for a few decades. Welcome to the world, go watch Star Wars.

The poster measures 36″ x 24″ and will put a smile on the face of a cubicle slave every day. I categorized this as “Tech Stuff” because any techie will appreciate Leia watching him do his thing.

The Big Lebowski – 10th Anniversary Limited Edition

The Big Lebowski - 10th Anniversary Limited EditionIf you haven’t seen The Big Lebowski (and don’t mind moderate to heavy levels of crudeness), you should do yourself a favor and pick this up. This is such a fine movie, well written and acted out perfectly.

I’ve checked this out a bit, and it appears as though the “Limited Edition” part of this doesn’t so much have anything to do with the content, but more with the packaging, which I think is brilliant. Word is there are a few interviews with the cast, but nothing too special. All that’s okay though, if you’re like me and have been telling yourself that you need to own this movie, now is the time. And of course, if you already own it, buy this version for a friend and leave the mark of The Dude on their shelf for all to see!

Travel Bingo

Make those road trips fun! There are a bunch of good old riding-in-the-car games that make tiresome drives more entertaining. This happens to be one with nice looking playing cards and all that jive.

Mark off things seen on the side of the road. Buildings, animals, and all kinds of things. Perfect for families driving to Grandma’s house over the river and through the woods!

Supersize Earbud Speakers

Supersize Earbud SpeakersGive somebody a gift that looks like you stole from a giant! These gigantic ipod-style earbud speakers are claimed to be 500 times the size of the headphones that come with ipods. 500 times!

The speakers connect to the non-giant’s computer via USB cable and have their own built-in amplifier. There’s no fancy stand or anything, but they will lay there on a desk looking great. Sure to start up a conversation anytime somebody glances at them for the first time.

So if you know a mac lover who would love to have their earbuds in all day, but can’t due to work regulations, get them the oversized earbuds so they can get their fix.

Get the huge earbuds here.

Active Venus Fly Trap

Active Venus Fly TrapThis gift would pretty much set the bar for coolest cubicle in the whole office. It’s a functioning Venus fly trap. Crazy stuff!

The pod has a motion detector that will close when it senses a bug (or finger I suppose) and snaps shut. It’s cupped so that the bug won’t be squished. That means you can check the little dude out before you do whatever else it is you’d like to do with the prisoner.

At first I thought this was just a little toy, but it’s pretty good sized. It weighs a full pound and is 9 inches tall. This is a pretty serious bug catcher, and it’s pretty cheap too! So give this as a gift to somebody who likes to play a little while they’re at work. They’ll be the popular person for the week at work for sure!

Trap some bugs here.

Carabiner Clip Watch

Carabiner Clip WatchCheck out these handy little watches. They have a carabiner built right into them as well as a powerful LED micro-light. Perfect for people like myself who don’t usually sport a watch on their wrist.

The little watches are water resistant up to 100 feet as well, so they make for a great hiking/camping companion. Clip them to your belt loop, back pack, or even your friend (if your friend has a weird loop thing that could handle something being clipped to it)! They’re only an inch and a half wide by three inches long, so they’ll fit anywhere.
