Supersize Earbud Speakers

Supersize Earbud SpeakersGive somebody a gift that looks like you stole from a giant! These gigantic ipod-style earbud speakers are claimed to be 500 times the size of the headphones that come with ipods. 500 times!

The speakers connect to the non-giant’s computer via USB cable and have their own built-in amplifier. There’s no fancy stand or anything, but they will lay there on a desk looking great. Sure to start up a conversation anytime somebody glances at them for the first time.

So if you know a mac lover who would love to have their earbuds in all day, but can’t due to work regulations, get them the oversized earbuds so they can get their fix.

MoPod Phone Charms

MoPod Phone CharmsTime to give your phone a friend…or maybe somebody else’s phone! These little dudes are kind of cool. As you can see in the little picture there, the MoPod critters start spinning when they are within a meter of a phone receiving a call or text message.

I’m not sure how they work, but if this is hung on the outside of your bag, and your phone is left on silent, this little guy will help you see the call coming in. How handy! There are at least 7 of these guys to choose from, including a penguin and a monkey!

Amazon Kindle

Amazon KindleThis is a new product from Amazon called the Kindle. It’s a portable reader basically, but it’s oh so much more.

The Kindle has wireless connectivity similar to a cell phone, only you don’t need the contract and service agreement to make it work. The display actually uses ink and is called Electronic Paper. So that means that your eyes will feel like they are reading paper instead of an electronic screen, and the best part is that you can read it in the daylight with no problem. It claims to reflect light just like paper, awesome.

You can download books, newspapers, and blogs to the Kindle and store them on it so you can read them anytime. It has a bookmark system so it will remember where you left off in your reading last time you finished. All in all, if you know a book reader who travels frequently, this could be the best gift they ever receive. Even somebody who just loves a good book will enjoy the Kindle. The book download feature sounds great, of course the books aren’t free, but you can get them almost as soon as you think you’d like to read that book…pretty sweet.

Have You Heard of this iPod Thing?

iPods at BestBuy.com
Okay, so I got a little lazy for today’s post. I haven’t blogged about an iPod yet, so here it is.

I got a new iPod Classic recently because my old 2nd generation one died on me. I really like it. I’m no Apple user, but I’ve got to say, they make a pretty good little media player. Now they’ve got the Nano, Classic, and Touch models from which to choose. I’ve got the 80 gig Classic in black. It’s been great for traveling and even for showing friends videos at times where I didn’t want to take the time to get the video on the TV or computer.

I really don’t think I need to talk the iPod up any more, as most people know what they are. So with that, I’ll throw the link down there and be done with it!

Give a Garmin

Garmin StreetPilot C580 GPSI recently drove coast to coast, Oregon to Florida, and I had one of these to help. Well, the Garmin GPS unit that we used was a few years older and had much fewer features than this one. It still helped make the trip stress free and helped us find cool attractions on the way there!

I can’t even begin to talk about the features this unit has. The list is incredibly long. It even includes an MP3 player! Of course, it has live traffic tracking and all kinds of good stuff. GPS systems are some of the coolest technology things we have today. It helps to find cool new routes when driving and gives comfort when you think you’re lost.

Meade LX90-GPS Telescope

Meade LX90-GPS TelescopeThis one comes to you in the middle of my cross-country trip to Florida to start my new job as a wakeboard coach! Today we saw some cool stuff, one was Meteor Crater in Arizona. It was awesome, and of course got us thinking about things in space. So that brings me to this cool telescope.

I didn’t know that telescopes came with GPS, but this thing does. Apparently it figures out where in the world it is operating, then, according to that, it will locate cool stuff in space for you to look at! That’s crazy! I’d love to see one of these in action, but it’s quite spendy, so I’ll have to luck out and meet somebody with one I suppose.

Anyway, this could be a pretty fun gift to give to somebody. Just make sure they’ll let you come over and join in on the fun.

Cube World Set

Cube World SetThe things those kids are doing today, sheesh! These little cube stick figures have quite the little lives going on for themselves. The fellow in the blue box is Chief, and the one in the red box is Sparky. Chief is a policeman and Sparky is a fireman. Each stick figure goes about their own business and have some games you can play with them. I suppose that’s what the buttons on the front are for. One cool thing is that if you shake the cube, the little dude falls down, neat!

Now it gets much better. You can connect the two cubes and the two guys will interact with each other! As you can see there in the picture, they like to play pranks on one another. There are two other cube people you can get as well - Toner, a corporate desk jockey, and Dash, a delivery man. Apparently if you have all four connected, they will all interact with each other in a glorious meeting of stick figures. Crazy stuff.

Aquapict LED Jellyfish Aquarium by Banpresto

Aquapict LED Jellyfish Aquarium by BanprestoI’ve always had a hard time keeping fish alive in aquariums. It doesn’t matter what type of fish, or what type of aquarium, I just know they aren’t going to last. This seems like a pretty good aquarium for somebody like me. I’m also pretty sure that jellyfish aren’t exactly something you can buy at the pet store and keep alive with jellyfish food, whatever that may be.

This aquarium has multi-colored LEDs to light up three little jellyfish made of silicone. That means I wouldn’t have to worry about maintaining their life! The jellyfish are constructed with the silicone to allow them to move around just like living jellyfish. There are 12 color settings. The movement of the jellyfish, or I guess jellyfishes, would be very soothing to observe.

Now, this is so cutting-edge, that the product is only available in Japan. That’s where the internet comes in handy. Us Americans can order it and they’ll ship a voltage converting along with it for no extra charge. So when you give it as a gift (or keep it for yourself), make sure you have that part handy.

Segatoys HomeStar Pure Home Planetarium

Segatoys HomeStar Pure Home PlanetariumThis is one I really want to see in action. It brings the night time sky into your house. I was recently able to get away from the city lights and look up at the night stars at Lake Powell. I tell you what, it was awesome.

The Home Planetarium projects 10,000 stars onto the ceiling. This model is powered by 4 AA batteries, so you can put it anywhere in the room you like, no need to worry about a cord. Different plates are available to include the moon or change the stars to the southern skies.

Some of the best campfire conversations I’ve had have happened when looking up at the stars. If you can’t get out to the wilderness, bring it to your home!

Geek Work Shirt

Geek Work ShirtOh boy, this is great. Most geeks are usually seen either in a Star Wars t-shirt or something that seems to take away from society’s view upon them as a man. On the other hand, whenever you see a guy in a gray-blue button up shirt with a name embroidered into it, most of us think “Now there’s a hard working man.” Well, here is the solution to that dilemma for the geek.

It’s the Geek Work Shirt. Only the hard core geeks really know what it’s like under the case of a beast of a computer, just like a garage mechanic knows what it’s like under the chassis of a ‘57 Chevy. So get the geek you love a shirt that will earn him some respect for the work he really does. Also, take a minute to read the description of the product at ThinkGeek, it blows mine away.
