There are all kinds of lamps and lights out there. Most have a switch of some sort, some are activated by touch alone, and some are turned on and off when you clap. This one presents a new way to control the light.
All you have to do to turn the Airswitch on and off is wave your hand over it! Not only can you turn it on and off, you can adjust its brightness by moving your hand higher or lower above the thing. Pretty awesome. It reminds me of a theremin, which is a musical instrument played by moving your hands in the proximity of the thing.
The light is available in four colors: red, blue, green, or orange. It’s 9½” tall, is made of glass, and uses a 40 watt bulb. This is apparently just another piece of evidence showing that I must have some weird obsession with lighting. Maybe it’s just that there are so many weird and unique types of lighting out there.
These things look pretty awesome in action. There’s nothing quite like the sight of a little hunk of real wood sticking out of the back or side of a computer. Each one of these USB flash memory sticks is a one of a kind real piece of wood.
It’s a great mix of technology with back woods style. Passers by may think that someone walked by with a stick and crammed it into the side of your laptop. They have 1 gigabyte of storage, so they’re decent sized drives. Just enough to transfer those work documents and maybe a few songs between the home and office.
I’m not sure if these come with a cap for the USB connector. Either way, if they do or not, the recipient of this one-of-a-kind gift idea may want to be careful about leaving this lying around where trash may be picked up. There is an extension USB cord that can be purchased at the site at well. Imagine how crazy someone would look with a cord leading from their computer to a little stick. I love it!
If you’re like me, many times you’ve found yourself saying “If only there was something that let me set fire to things and store my files at the same time.” Doesn’t sound like something you’ve said? Well maybe someone you know wishes for just that. If so, this is the perfect weird and unique gift idea!
So what is this thing? Well, it’s a lighter/USB drive combo. It’s a swell idea I suppose. I imagine it would mostly come in handy for those who tend to prefer the smoke inhalation, but hey, who doesn’t like setting things on fire?
The Memlite comes in six colors (at the time of posting, I imagine there may be more later on), and four different sizes, from 512 mb to 4 gb. I’m not sure how that’s possible, since the picture makes the USB part look pretty small, but all I know is that the largest one is 4 gb, which is pretty sweet.
Warning: The site has some somewhat loud music, but it can be turned off. The place to turn it off is near the bottom right of the image; it’s the little vertical bars moving up and down. Also, I’ve managed to have the page freak out on me and just keep loading, blasting the music. If that happens, close the window and try again. So go look at the Memlite.
The Smart Case claims to be high-impact, looks sleek, and it doesn’t take up much extra space, so your iPod is still nice and portable. The case comes in sizes for all current iPods: Classic, Touch, and Nano. It comes in your choice of 6 colors, I think I like the awesome brown (I like traditionally “ugly” colors, I’m weird).
This little dude will crawl anywhere there’s a smooth surface. It doesn’t matter if it’s vertical or horizontal, ceiling or floor. The little REX uses his suction cups to go up walls and upside down on ceilings.
I’d say it would make a great gift for someone who is stuck in an office all day. I’d love to see it in action. It’s pretty cheap, so who knows how well it works. I’m also not sure about how many people have walls that are smooth enough for this guy to climb on. I guess to test it out, you can get a normal suction cup and see if it sticks to your wall or ceiling. It probably only needs to stay there for a few seconds. I’ve got that textured stuff in this room, so I’m not sure it would work in here, but man it would be pretty cool to have a little robot thing just crawling all over the place.
This is a cool idea I suppose. It’s a 2 gig USB flash drive that doubles as an mp3 player. The catch is that it’s super slim and can easily fit in your pocket or purse and such. It already comes with a neat little water droplet design, but apparently you can get your own custom image or graphic on the thing. The control buttons are pretty small, but look to be spread out enough to easily find and use. It looks like they threw in some white earbud headphones that they ripped off from Apple, so your giftee can look nice and trendy with those coming out of their pocket.
The site where the product is for sale is apparently hosted in Hong Kong. It does have a .hk domain, so that’s what I’m assuming. The listed way to customize the graphic on the thing is just an email address, so I guess you work it out with them personally. That may be a good or a bad thing, I’ll be optimistic and figure it’s a good thing. Either way, it’s a pretty cool little gizmo that would be real handy to have around, since it can also hold any types of files just like any other flash drive.
